DANIEL’S STORY

It’s taken Daniel 37 years to be here with you today. It had to take that long for him to make enough mistakes… to find enough solutions… and to get enough results when it comes to raising capital for inventions.

Daniel is the Australian Member of the UN Task Force on Innovation and Competitiveness (UNESCAP) and has published several books – including “Billion Dollar Napkin” a practical guide for Inventors to commercialise their intellectual property.

He has been a Director of HCT for five years, after the takeover by Holista in 2012.

Daniel has specialised in intellectual property portfolio management and commercialisation and has expanded to include an online global coaching and mentoring program, providing video-based courses, checklists and group help for inventors and R&D teams around the world. People like you.

ARE YOU COMMERCIAL-READY? THE IP READINESS TEST IS A FREE COMPREHENSIVE 6-PAGE REPORT ON YOUR PROJECT READINESS TO GO TO MARKET

LEVEL 1

We first start with an online, self-paced learning program to provide a comprehensive understanding of the six steps of commercialization. This is in an easy-to-learn format of video-based learning, supplemented with articles, case studies, checklists, templates, and exercises to ensure you fully understand how the process works.

When the first model of this course is completed, you will be invited to book a 4-hour Ideation and Commercial Modelling workshop with our team so we can document your situation and map out your commercial pathway. This workshop will produce a comprehensive mind map and an action plan for the next six months for your project.

Once the workshop is complete, we plan out the program and set our weekly activities with you so you can implement the plan . We can also provide you with advice and guidance, measure your progress, and keep you accountable.

Along the way, you will meet with us on our weekly live group coaching calls and reach out for help (if needed) in our private Facebook group. You will also have access to our library of tools and templates to ensure you are building your learning so you can apply this to the next transaction or project.

LEVEL 2

This six-month program is only offered to graduates of the Level1 program who have achieved their first objective within the six months and would like to provide their new skills to other inventors as a “Done-For-You” service.

We regularly have inventors and companies reach out for commercialization services. Due to their circumstances (lack of time, experience, confidence, or ability to travel), they may prefer to outsource particular tasks in 10-hour blocks.

We offer this service through our IP Mentors, who qualify by completing the Level 2 program.
Clients can pre-purchase a block of 10 hours (at a time) and work with me to set objectives. If our Level 2 graduates have these requisite skills and have completed this program, we can outsource the services at full consulting rates.

IP Mentors are offered to clients on a suitability basis, such as expertise, experience with the required tasks, familiarity with the industry/market, etc. The client selects IP Mentors for interview and chooses who they would like to work with.

The services are delivered under our professional indemnity insurance cover. From time to time, IP Mentors are offered equity in the projects they are working on or may choose to invest directly in a project. Although we encourage this (the experience and know-how are generally worth far more than the investment), we do not participate directly as an Academy.

LEVEL 3

The program is designed to help establish an IP incubator which can then audit the organization to identify opportunities and later work with the inventors to ensure the intellectual property is owned by the organization and has a clear path to market with recognition or reward for the inventor.

There are six key steps to the commercialization of organizational intellectual property, which can be identified, captured, and commercialized. The program is designed for IP portfolio managers or experienced research and development managers within an organisation, to enable the establishment of a structure and adoption of a process which will automate the capture, nurturing and monetization process for intellectual property.

WHAT OUR CLIENTS ARE SAYING

After completing Level 1 in 2012, I delved into business consulting for 12 years. During COVID in 2020, I seized the opportunity to complete Level 2. Now, as a freelance IP Mentor, I offer tailored services for inventors, including 10-hour blocks of dedicated support and facilitating group coaching meetings and workshops on IP and funding strategies.

Formula 1 For Business

The Inventors Academy Level 3 gave us the clarity and process to identify, qualify, patent, and monetize intellectual property opportunities in our Group and build a separate revenue stream from our own, in-house expertise.

I had a great, professional and productive experience with Daniel J. O’Connor! He provided exceptional and immediate insight and gave me new, fresh and vital perspectives which, I believe, will effectively advance the adaption of my invention. I will continue my relationship with Daniel, and I thank him very much!

Success Stories

Arron French (Afcorp) needed seed capital to produce his plastic injection mold and samples for global distributors. We helped him raise his funds and build his product to a competitive price, He was invited to the USA to present to a major hardware chain and won a gold ticket for distribution.
Justin Massion (Jam Studios) Had hundreds of very useful applications for his 3D menu system. We got his focus to one product, in one application, in one industry and developed a niche product for the industry No2 service seller to add this feature to their product range so they could get back to No1.

Dr Rajen (Holista Colltech) Had lots of ideas but no market channels. He signed his first national distribution agreement with a pharmacy chain in China with over 28,000 outlets. He has since signed other distribution agreements in at least 4 countries, as well as added more products to the channel.

Simon Frayne (Consultant) was always hunting for new clients and needed a breakthrough in his consulting practice. After several weekly planning sessions, Daniel focused him on a niche service, designed him consulting program and co-wrote a book with him on that specific subject.
Bassam Matty (Engineering) designed an innovative solution that enabled a builder to deliver a shopping mall extension for 32% cheaper, and five months ahead of schedule. He saved the client near $40m and didn’t know how to retain the IP to build a commercial business around it. We showed him how.
John Bowey (Fabrication) was worried he could earn enough from his single item. We grew his product range by talking to the people with the problems he was currently solving. They told him what other issues they were having, and he designed and offered them products to solve these other problems.
